Powers/Potencias

A power of a number is the product obtained by multiplying the number by itself a given number of times

25 = 2·2·2·2·2 = 32

2 → base
5 → exponent


 Examples:

4= 16     four to the second power or four squared 

5= 125   five to the third power or five cubed

3= 81     three to the fourth power

2= 32     two to the fifth power

Basic operations/Operaciones básicas

+   plus                         
–   minus                      
×   multiplied by/times  
÷   divided by               
=   equals/is         

Examples:

5 + 6 = 11  five plus six equals eleven 
                  five plus six is eleven

10 – 8 = 2  ten minus eight equals two
                  ten minus eight is two
                  ten take away eight is two

4 × 7 = 28  four multiplied by seven equals twenty-eight
                  four multiplied by seven is twenty-eight
                  four times seven is twenty-eight

27 ÷ 9 = 3  twenty-seven divided by nine equals three
                  twenty-seven divided by nine is three
